Over the years, scorpions have been suffering from a bad reputation due to their look and the myths created surround them. Of the 250 species of scorpions found in Mexico only 15 represent a serious health problem in some States. On account of this, maps of known and potential distribution of these species in the country were elaborated, in order to provide general information to the population, warning them if there are toxic scorpions near them (it is important to recognize that all scorpions are venomous animals, but not all can affect human being).

This webpage has been divided into two sections: a) Scorpion biology, where you can find biological and ecological information, Worldwide and Mexican diversity. b) Scorpionism, where you can find diagnosis of the problem from a medical point of view, distribution maps of mortality and morbility within 1997 to 2007 in the country, along with the known and potential distribution of toxic scorpions.
