Family Akravidae* (monotypic) contains one genus and one troglobite species. It is distributed in Israel.


Family Bothriuridae comprises 15 genera and nearly 140 species. It is distributed in South America, part of South Africa and south of Asia, including also Australia.


Family Buthidae is representated by 89 genera (one extinct) and 1000 species. This family is present in all the world.


Family Chactidae comprises 12 genera and nearly 180 species. It is distributed in the continent America, its highest diversity is found in South America.


Family Chaerilidae is represented by one genus and 36 species which are distribuited in Asia only.


Family Diplocentridae is representated by 8 genera and almost 113 species. Scorpions of this family are found in North America to Ecuador, Caribbean islands and in the Arabic peninsula.


Family Euscorpiidae comprises 4 genera and 25 species distribuited in Mexico and Europe.


Family Hemiscorpidae contains 1 genus  and 13 species which are distribuited in the Middle East.


Family Heteroscorpionidae is representated by one genus and 6 species. Its distribution is restricted to Madagascar, Africa .


Family Hormuridae comprises 9 genera and 69 species. Scorpions of this family are found in all the world except in North America.


Family Iuridae is representated by 6 genera and 39 species , 2 of them are found in North America, 2 in South America, and the last 2 in Greece and Turkey.


Family Pseudochactidae* contains currently 3 genera and 3 species restricted to Uzbekistan and Vietnam, Asia.


Family Scorpionidae is representated by 4 genera cuya distribución abarca el Norte de África, Sudáfrica, Medio Oriente y el sur de Asia.


Family Scorpiopidae contains 6 genera and nearly 58 species, which are found in south Asia.


Family Superstitioniidae* is representated only by one species distribuited in the south of USA and Baja California.


Family Typhlochactidae* recently created and includes 4 genera and 10 species. Scorpions are found only in Mexico, from Tamaulipas to Oaxaca.


Family Troglotayosicidae comprises 2 genera and 3 species. One genus is found in South America and the other one in Europe.


Family Urodacidae is representated by one genus and 21 species found in Australia.


Family Vaejovidae is currently under revision. It comprises 10 genera and mearly 190 species. It is endemic to North America.

WORLD DIVERSITY

Almost 2087 scorpions species in 161 genera and 19 families (Prendini, 2011; Ove Rein. 2013) inhabit the world nowadays.
